Introduction to Flower Allentown
The Rich Mar Florist journey started as a true American Dream, with Richard P. Morrissey, his wife Dolores, and his parents Frieda and Vincent. They established the company in 1955 in Allentown, Pennsylvania, beginning operations in a townhouse basement on Gordon Street. The initial growth was modest, but the family business soon flourished beyond their expectations.
The 1970s marked a period of rapid expansion for Rich Mar Florist, spreading across the region from The Berkshire Mall to Gilbertsville, Village West, Broad Street in Bethlehem, and center-city Easton. The growth continued into the 1980s, shaping the company's current identity. Richard J. married Frances M. Martin in 1981, and she joined the family business.
In 1987, Rich Mar transformed an old TV repair shop into their beautiful location at 2407 Easton Avenue in Bethlehem. A year later, they relocated the Tilghman Street location to 17th & Tilghman. These two locations became the busiest and eventually the sole flagship stores. In 1989, Rich Mar opened its Design Center in Allentown, handling phone orders and crafting stunning arrangements. This location also features a Bridal Showroom, inspired by the Walt Disney World Florist.
In 2003, Richard J.'s son, Jonathan, graduated from King's College and joined the family business, representing the fourth generation of Morrisseys at Rich Mar Florist. Jonathan married Melissa Hahn in 2007, forming another Morrissey husband-and-wife team within the company.
New heights were achieved in 2009 when Rich Mar Florist became the official floral provider for the Women's Open at Saucon Valley Country Club. The company subsequently partnered with Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs in 2011. As the decade continued, Rich Mar Florist emerged as one of the top 100 FTD florists nationwide, partnering with Pocono Raceway and Lehigh Valley Phantoms, and serving celebrity clients like Elton John.
Over the years, the company received numerous awards, including the 2017 Excellence in Business Award from the Lehigh Valley Chamber of Commerce. Their success continued as they were named "Best of the Valley" by Lehigh Valley Magazine in 2018.
